OUR HISTORY
In late 2007 a few energetic, coffee-loving young chaps saw a gap in the market for a professional coffee machine servicing company in Wellington. These original Ninjas trained with some industry pros including our very own Pete, as well as self-taught, and soon had a list of loyal customers, including some top Wellington coffee roasters. Word was spreading and Espresso Ninja was growing.
Come mid-2011 they decided it was time to sell as the boys had their sights on further horizons and this needed all their attention. Enter Martin Caughley, who knew of the Espresso Ninja lads as one of their suppliers, and through mutual friends. Over a Piccolo at Memphis Belle, Martin brokered the deal to buy Espresso Ninja with the aim to realise its further potential.
Keen to apply his years of experience in customer service, sales, and problem-solving, Martin worked day and night to learn the ways of the Espresso Ninja quickly and is now the Ninja Master himself.
From humble beginnings, Espresso Ninja has built a somewhat cult following and is widely regarded as the industry expert team in New Zealand. We provide support to everyone- from domestic customers to the country’s biggest coffee roasters. Espresso Ninja has a large team of coffee professionals and enthusiasts who really know their stuff.
In early 2021, we seized the opportunity to turn a long-standing dream into a reality. After four months of consultation, design, planning, and building, we opened the Black Belt Barista Store. Filled with equipment from the world’s finest manufacturers. Here, you’ll only find quality equipment, built to last. The community has really supported us and we’re rapt to say it’s a huge win. It is the best specialist coffee equipment store in the country.
We are 100% locally owned and are completely independent and unbiased. We supply our services to many coffee roasters, so we don’t sell coffee beans. If your company needs a technical presence in the Wellington Region, contact us!
